Jean Vinet graduated in Political Sciences at York University (Toronto) before pursuing post-graduate studies in theatre and education at the University Paris III. He worked in the performing arts department of the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris before being appointed Director of Studies at the French National Circus Arts School (CNAC) between 1992 and 1998 with sculptor Bernard Turin. Holder of a PhD in arts and human sciences obtained from the University Paris X, in 2000 he created La Brèche in Cherbourg (Normandy, France), a pilot circus arts centre specialised in artist residencies and production in France and Europe. He was one of the founders of the national association Territoires de cirque, the European network Circostrada, and the European Federation of Circus Schools. He was the initiator and main manager of several European projects under various programmes (Léonardo, Culture 2000, Interreg III, Europe Creative). He was an expert member of the French National Advisory Committee for Performing Arts (Commission nationale consultative pour le spectacle vivant) and is the author of several articles and books. He was Director of the Cultural Agency of the Région Centre whose aim was the cultural development of the region, strengthening its links with artistic creations and getting the local population involved in these activities. Jean Vinet then became Director of Culture and Heritage for Greater Amiens focusing on artistic creation, working with local residents and making the local community more attractive.
Recently, he founded La compagnie transatlantique which aims to develop artistic and cultural projects abroad. He works closely with networks and partners all over the world in order to provide advice, contacts and personalised training to implement sustainable transnational projects.
